Walk a mile every day or up to 16 miles in one day and get into action to raise money for Safer, the Bailiwick’s domestic abuse charity.

We are looking for teams and individuals of any age or gender to enter this event. You could be a team of work colleagues, deputies, school mates, friends, family, or a team from your club or church, etc. You do not have to be in a team…you can go it alone to shed some pounds before Christmas and raise some pounds for Safer at the same time!

Your challenge is to walk a mile every day over the 16 Days of Action starting on 25th November and finishing on 10th December. We realise that not everyone will be able to do this, so you can do more in one day and skip a day if you want, or you can choose to get active in a different way for 16 days doing activities to challenge yourself.

A mile is around 2016 steps (depending on how long your stride is!)  so you can do your mile in different ways on different days counting your steps in your lunch-time on one day or going for a walk with the dog on another. Just go the extra mile!

We are incorporating the “Walk a Mile in Their Shoes” as a group event on the first Saturday of the 16 Days of Action. This is a fun event which will be open to everyone who has signed up for the 16 Days of Action, not just the men! Grab a pair of your workmate’s wellies, your sister’s slippers, the boss’s brogues, your colleague’s court shoes, your teacher’s trainers the choice is yours! Don’t forget to ask permission to borrow them! Then walk from Salerie Corner to the Castle Emplacement with us on Saturday 26th November starting at 10am for the warm up and registration.

Why the 16 Days of Action? The UN holds its 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day. It is therefore a great time for us all to be galvanized into action to end domestic abuse in the Bailiwick, raising awareness of domestic abuse, raising funds for Safer and with the positive added bonus of raising our levels of fitness before the Festive Season.

Work colleagues, and other friends can form teams of 3 for £25. If you are under 14 you need to register with an adult so we have a family registration for you. There is an  early bird family registration available for only £10 which will go up to £20 once that offer has finished. For this you can have up to 2 parents registered and as many children registered as are in your family.

If you are over 14 and want to go it alone you can register for £10, if you are a student in full time education aged 14 and over or a pensioner or on benefits you can register for £5. You can also choose to make a donation when you register.

We are asking people to register on line at registration

When you have registered you will be sent a link to your own and your team fund raising page which you can put your own photographs on and customise. You can then share links to this page so that people can sponsor you.

If this all sounds like something you want to support we hope you will take part but if you cannot you can still donate at Donnate
