We have received the excellent news that Safer has been chosen by one of the Channel Islands Student Business Challenge teams, Carpe Diem Café, to benefit from their efforts. The Carpe Diem team will be producing cakes, cookies and other baked goods along with various hot and cold drinks to sell in the Market Square on Saturday 28 January from 9am until 5pm. They will also be attending a pitch day in the Market Square on Saturday 11 February which will see them joined by this year’s other teams.
On Tuesday 10 January in Jersey and Thursday 12 January in Guernsey the Channel Islands Student Business Challenge kicked off with an official launch, where students had the chance to hear a series of talks about different aspects of running their own business, from creating a business plan and managing finances to marketing and getting the best from social media. The 11 to 16 year olds have ten weeks to develop their entrepreneurship skills under the guidance of one business mentor and one school mentor per team.
Ten teams from each school are using their initial investment of £100 to demonstrate their business acumen, for profit or to benefit their community.
Teams have ten weeks to impress the judges before facing a final Dragons’ Den with business leaders, who will judge each team before identifying the winners. Official awards evenings in Guernsey and Jersey, supported by the corporate partners Barclays, EY, Ogier and Sure, will be held in mid-May to bring this exciting and motivating initiative to a close.
